This is quite a good book but my library just lost their hoopla subscription so idk when I'll be able to finish it

The Japanese atrocities are horrifying, page after page. I recognize the irony that Rabe’s homeland of Germany was treating Jewish and other people in equally atrocious ways.
I admire his insistence on staying to protect the Chinese refugees and bear witness.
