I've had a paperback copy of this book from an op shop gathering dust on my shelf for quite a while. I finally picked it up, and realised it's set in Australia in the early days of old Sydney Town. I'm going to give it a try.

So glad her hating him didn't go further into the story. Although it wasn't horrible either because she's mostly too much a lady to give voice to the poison her father instilled in her before he died. He was aware of her dislike and why, and it didn't bother him much at first, but it's the quickly hidden hurt on his face that makes her rethink things. so sweet!

Only a fool cared about the opinion of fools and, to Tom Dilhorne’s cold eye, most people were fools.

I need to make a little note here:)
The story setting was in 1812.
For some, lived in Sydney must be worse than in England but Australian women got more freedom than their counterparts who lived in England.
Going alone without chaperone or try to get a job for women apparently is ok, have you ever read something like that in your HR England setting before?
Yup! Lucky women:)
