I live stories within stories and the old man's tale of the She-Painter and the missing hogs is no exception. McCarthy remains perfection personified, may he rest sweetly.

I thought the boy, the man, and the old man were all Sylder at different times in his life. Took me a hundred pages for the boy and the man to meet and completely change my perception of the book...

"Cats troubled the old man's dreams and he did not sleep well anymore."

That sentence and everything that follows it, more what follows it than before it, is why I read McCarthy.
