Finished chapter 1. Really interesting how Hoppe flips the traditional view of Monarchy as naturally contrary to the welfare of the public. He outlines how the interests of the monarch as the owner of a private government with private funds colors his ideal conditions for warfare, domestic policy, taxation, etc. and how that tends to be more beneficial for the citizen than democratic republicanism.

Very interesting thus far. I was a little bored and confused during the first chapter's beginning, wondering what relevance it had to the subject. Hoppe started really tying together how time preference relates to private versus public government. Definitely an engaging analysis once you absorb his explanation of time preference.
