Though his exposure to Islam was through the Nation of Islam, a wrongful representation of Muslim belief, the story he has been telling shows traits of being truly good Muslim. The reflection upon is past brings back sympathy for his aggressive Nation of Islam views on unity -- what would he have in prison if not the Nation of Islam?
