(The more one discovers, the more it raises questions. For Fuller, Berg, Harberts first and foremost, I suppose. Which has long been the case actually, but now even more so).

Personally, Korie feels such potentially revelatory addition to character influences; early on I've been intrigued by Stamets' conception: this devoted mushroom scientist - as obviously inspired by the namesake; decidedly not an engineer, but in charge of a huge starship Engineering operation. With a personality from who knows where.

However actual or not, it's exciting to see possible traces of that etymology here.

"Korie’s wife and two sons had been on Shaleen when the Morthans attacked. They were presumed dead. Afterward, Korie had received a delayed-in-transit message from Carol indicating that they were trying to evacuate to Taalamar — but Taalamar had been destroyed... there was no evidence of the arrival of his wife and children. Emotionally, Korie had lost them, been given a nugget of hope, then lost them again."

Re: familiar from Disco: not to forget the 1st thing to stand out! Korie's certain familiar character/personality traits AND history of family tragedies; which one can't help but to postulate quite resemble both Stamets' quirks and the losses and threats on loved ones he's put to endure throughout the three seasons, most recently in the very latest episodes; the whole "dead or not" trauma and one's inability to help.

Elements here that are familiar from Disco:
- Crew invading an abandoned ship to try and recover solutions to their predicament, from the research logs stored on the ship.
- Computers in active character roles. As both anta- and protagonists. Invading each others' databases.
- Paul, and his partner, the only steady couple among the crew. One of them a medical officer.
- Said medic's demise
