You know that dry "wash" you drive over on the Gila rez on your way to Tucson? Tough to imagine that it was once a sizable river that flowed to SW AZ. Actually still has rushing headwaters in the mountains of W NM. Put this on my current reads list, a priori #1. Writing an article for the Sierra Club's newspaper, due 6/1. Read a chunk of it in the past, decided to start over. Beautiful writing. A tragedy.
