As always with Ann Leckie, this story immediately plunges the reader into an unfamiliar and fascinating world!

I'm having a lot of fun with this!

This is quite a self-parody. I laughed out loud at "Lesbian PETA Members to Watch Out For"!

Glad one big inevitable event has finally happened, impatient for the rest to unfold.

Yikes, tough stuff happening!

Interesting seeing how this is developing, in both timelines.

Great mix of comforting familiarity and exciting new settings and characters!

Book club pick. I've already heard a lot about this book but somehow hadn't heard that it starts off with a space disaster in the first chapter.

Yay, new Murderbot! This will be even more fun since I just finished rereading all the previous books.

”Yeah, I’ll just code a patch to stop feeling anxiety, wow, why didn’t I think of that earlier. (That was sarcasm, I have too much organic neural tissue for that to work.) (Of course I’ve already tried it.)"

Glad to be rereading these in quick succession, because this story picks up right after NETWORK EFFECT, and the first time I read it, I barely remembered any of the context.

I wonder when the main characters well come back into each other's lives, and how that will go.

Took me a little time to get really interested, but then I've been tearing through this.

Absorbing introduction to the first character and her early life.

Starting off in a similar way to Slow Dance, but there's also the comic/movie part still to be explained more.

Loving this story and characters! Things are really happening fast now, and I'm anxious for everyone.

"The collapse of ordinariness that spring happened so fast that later it was hard to disentangle the constituent parts of it, military and financial and political and personal and magical, or to remember what order they had happened in." I'm so interested in all these constituent parts!

Now deep into the magical element of the story, and very intrigued.

Rereading. I remember many bits and pieces of this story, but not how they all fit together, so most of the events so far have been surprises.

This is a dense read, slow and methodical, and I remember being bored at points the first time I read it. I'm appreciating the details more this time around.

Fascinating historical fiction, with only a couple glimpses so far of speculative elements yet to come.

I'm rereading this, but might as well be reading it for the first time, because I remember almost nothing except the journey across the ice, which turns out to be a small enough part of the story that I haven't even reached it yet. It's all quite interesting.

"[Traffic] all moves along, however crowded, quite steadily at the rate of 25 miles per hour (Terran). Gethenians could make their vehicles go faster, but they do not. If asked why not, they answer 'Why?' Like asking Terrans why all our vehicles must go so fast; we answer 'Why not?' No disputing tastes."

Revisiting this (I read it 20+ years ago) for book club, and after reading a lot of Le Guin's other work.

Continuing my Murderbot reread. This installment takes place after Exit Strategy and before Network Effect, though it was published later.

I'm invested by now in all the characters and their problems.
