Nearly halfway! I don't know what I feel. The story is feeling kind of slow, and I don't really feel rooted to anyone yet. The magic is pretty cool and the atmosphere is immersive too. However the writing sometimes sounds like it's trying too hard to sound mystical -- or maybe that's just historical fantasy tone that I'm not used to.

The names...I can't--
The King's name: Quercus Rowan, so basically Oak Rowan tree lol
Also what's up with the generous helpings of 'y'. When I first realised Ravyn is pronounced Raven I spit out the water I'm drinking. Then there's Jespyr (?)

I can't take this book seriously hahahahah

Someone's skin is described as 'olive' and I can't help imagine them being green like Elphaba lol.

I've been enjoying this book so far, but why is it soooo long.
Also the romantic relationships seem way too easy to ignite for everybody... is that realistic??

Urgh why do I have a pang of homesickness? The character relationships are so beautiful and real it makes me cry. I wanna hug them all

Kind of want to DNF this book. Just past the point they escaped the marsh horse man and met up with Tansy, and frankly I don't care what happens next. I'm just getting rather bored.

Even from the beginning I can tell this book is going to be EPIC. Chills.

Nearly there: halfway through part 5. I liked part 1 the most after all. Also, I need CONTEXT, because it feels like the meaning of each poem runs away from me the further I go...

Thoughts: can't be Vera or Armstrong: if he really is the murderer, he would have been more careful with it. Lombard seems suspicious, but too obvious to be him.
Blore and Wargrave is possible. More likely to be Wargrave, he seems omniscient.

It's just soooo funny! I like the beautiful and detailed descriptions of the animals and the countryside, but I find it quite distressing to see young Gerry casually and matter-of-factly bringing wild animals home.
