Thus far, I'm getting strong Hunger Games vibes, but not nearly as well done. There is the idea of public games with a prize and possibility of death, but no real sense of why they happen. There is class struggle happening. World building is inconsistent- electricity exists, but people use swords and daggers. I'm not seeing why the high ratings exist.

I was unprepared for the depth of this book. I'm impressed.

The fight scene and the teacher translation were funny.

Some of this is funny, but some is downright offensive. It also does not reflect current educational environments. Maybe this stuff happens at other schools, but not mine. Oof

No hint of anything wonky until the very last line of chapter 9. I was just about to give up hope!

I feel like this author is processing some real-life stuff by writing this book, and it is getting in the way of there being some kind of actual plot.

Still no monsters.

I am nearly a quarter of the way into this book and I have yet to see any monsters of the non-human variety. I call shenanigans and false advertising.

Ok, while the FMC is weak, the daughter has my love.

The entire first chapter was an infodump and nothing happened. By that point I had already figured out that the FMC's "loving" husband was cheating on her, she is about to get divorced, and her best friend is preggers by her cheating husband. You get what you pay for, and this book was free. I'm not impressed.

I am very frustrated by this book. It's very well-written- the language is beautiful- but NOTHING IS HAPPENING. By my ebook's count, I'm over 200 pages in, and there is precious little happening beyond extensive exposition. I would have quit if it weren't that I'm reading this to satisfy my sister, who insisted on me reading it.

WHY IS NOTHING HAPPENING???
