I think the issue I’m having with this book, why I’m taking so long to finish, is because there is actually so much repeating information, you’re being told and reminded of the same things quite often? It’s not that bad, it’s just that the writing is a little boring. Most interesting part of the book is seeing how everyone connects but there isn’t much excitement

Okay I’m crazy invested now, writing is still ass but a plot is a plot

Okay now I’m just annoyed the investigation part of this story is wrong about the process of dna comparison? They have the dna of both of Reese’s parents, you can literally just test to see if it’s related to the parents? When you test it agains a victim anyways, it should say there is a familial connection??

I know I’m not familiar with who dunnit books, but I have one thing I enjoy about this book and it’s that it’s really easy to suspect everyone, most of them have motive, except Wyatt? I’m like kinda dying to know who did it aka the only reason I’m powering through this fuck ass boon ITS SO BADDD

Two more problems

1) way too much emphasis about Reese’s body, like her breasts and ass, from not just adults but family members and it feels SO weird and it doesn’t even seem relevant outside of the weird pedo incest weird uncle thing.. which I hope has a reason cause it’s just weird
2) big words are being used to sound smart and it makes it a worse read ur taking urself too seriously man

The plot and story and characters are all soo so interesting, like especially the cast of characters are so infatuating, so it’s very easy to get through purely out of love for the cast,.. I do think the writing is a bit lackluster? It’s great at describing settings and people and little details, but it also repeats facts to you that you have read time and time again! Like you told me that on the last page 3

Mary Kubica just clearly hates teenagers and has this annoying and overwhelmingly dull way of writing these teenagers, and it’s so difficult to read through. I am two years older than Reese in this book and I can tell you that’s teenagers don’t fucking think or act like this ?? It’s always the same shit 😭😭 ohhh teenager hate parents and their phone oooo girl just write better characters

I can’t stop complaining, it’s so bad.. everything is a run-on sentence or just repeating what we already know like fuck that was three pages ago tell me the story

The perspective changes for the first few chapters is so distracting? I want to have the tension of discovering the dead bodies but I keep hearing about this annoying teenager a week earlier UGH

Bad thriller released again, but it’s my first bad thriller so I’m like actually pumped!!

The teenager’s voice is so fucking annoying and like I know it’s been two years since I was a 17 year old and I can’t speak for every single one ever but I don’t think any of them have this inner monologue at all 😭😭 fucking ‘the parental units’ just shoot me instead

“At first glance, the porch is empty, but then I just barely make out bare feet stretched on the floor, overhanging the end of the bed, and I realize the porch is not empty like I thought.” Peak fucking writing dude ohhh my god LMFAOOOOO

The description of the settings in specific moments is to confusing is it a porch or a bedroom am I stupid

I think the story line in the most interested in is the story of Tagtaa 😭😭 which is all just backstory or flashbacks ugh

I’m trying to figure out the timeline right now? Bao’s seems like it’s a few months ahead of snow’s, but idk how much? Where are they in the timeline I’m going insane

It was like interesting to think about before but it felt like a slow start to just get the story going BUT the perspectives are starting to mingle ehhehehe I’m getting excited

Also idk why it feels like I’ve been taking so long with this book when it’s been 9 days I need to chill out a little I can’t be reading every book in 3 days (curse you heated rivalry)

Honestly it’s a little harder to follow but its because I’m in a distracted state of mind. It’s like a flow of consciousness it seems? Super interesting, also she acts like me wtf… she views herself as a bad person while being very particular about how she is viewed by others, wanting to be seen as better than she feels… she wants to be herself but fears rejection fuckkk

Two chapters finished, very interesting !!! So far it seems duo-perspective, one perspective on a fox who is on the hunt for a murder, and the other a detective who is trying to figure out who killed a woman and if foxes were involved! SOOO interested in how their stories will come together this is AWESOME

You can tell RR isn’t actually the best writer ever in this early book (waiting to see how it pans out) cause lord her story holding without sex being described in detail definitely feels so meaningless like there are no stakes or they are treated as high narratively

So far I think it’s executing the story fine but like there is no depth to anything that happens it’s SOO surface level, but the writing is easy to just blast through minus really REALLY bad like corny sentences or scenes to close chapters UGH I hate it so much TT

I think only 4 chapters left and I’m genuinely scared for the ending of this book. Gosh I would love a look inside any of the other characters’ minds but specifically Chris and the grandmother’s (although I know Chris dos have his own books) I’m scared I’m scared I read the back of the next book and it’s missing one of the children and one of the next chapters sounds not promising oh god save me

The grandmother is unnecessarily cruel to these young children but there was one glimpse of kindness and I’m curious if it gets built upon at all or if it’s just.. a weird glitch in character? Giving the flower to the children after hearing that they are making a garden in the attic. Also her being claustrophobic because of abuse she suffered as a child god I need to know her mind LET ME IN

The mother is so self-absorbed almost to a narcissistic point, and it was evident from the beginning from how she spoke of herself but it becomes so much more unbearable as the story goes on. She is so much more important than her children in her mind and it’s also very much a point the book is trying to make so it’s a fun thing to read, plus with Chris totally enabling her like everyone except Cathy does
