It’s very entertaining so far, but it’s not quite “can’t put it down” good.

I am thoroughly enjoying this book! It’s adventure that doesn’t stop, meeting many people and new cultures.

Finally! The story picks back up when the Red Queen is attacked is attacked in her palais by the creepy children. And a return to the values I loved from the first book: the people who raise you are more important than those who made you, utopia is hard work, and not everything has to be a damn love story. People - especially women - can be important without a romantic partner.

The storyline with Katie Rice is disrupting the pacing of the book, which is making me not enjoy as much. I’m also wondering which is the real story in this series; Kelsea the Glynn Queen or how the dark thing became a monster. I do like how the Red Queen is slowly falling, it’s not happening all at once. And the children are terrifying.

The story is dragging along now, and the Lily Mayhew subplot feels like fodder. Nothing is happening and I’m growing bored. The Mort army is here and Kelsea hasn’t learned anything, has no idea how to stop them. What has been the point of this book so far?

The physical changes in Kelsea’s appearance seem to coincide with her slowly moving to the dark side. And perhaps that’s why the sapphires seem to no longer work? The author isn’t very good at writing battle scenes and should really avoid them.

I’m already not loving this as much as I did the original ‘Mistborn’ trilogy.’ This feels more like ‘Elantris’ which I also didn’t really care for. Marasi just happened to show up at Wax’s house and no reason is given. I have to hope this will be explained later.

I don’t really care for this book. Since I read it was the author’s most popular book, I thought I would love it. But I find many issues with it. The characters are too perfect, it’s a little hard to follow, and it just has a little too much fantasy for me.

Megan is on page 481 of 590 of The Well of Ascension (Mistborn, #2)
The author is trying to force things to happen now and it’s not making sense. Vin is able to look further into the future than people burning atium? And Vin and Elend leave Luthadel in a sense of urgency, then, just take their time? At least Zane is dead. And throwing in a nugget that he’s not actually “insane” is just eye-rolling.

I’m starting to get sick of Vin constantly questioning how Elend feels about her. And how easily Zane got to her, making her think she’s nothing but a ‘tool,’ is annoying, but probably in line with an 18-year-old. Still, the sense of mystery smoothly continues without Kelsier coming up with it. See

So far I’m loving this. Continuing to slowly delve into the Deepness and Well of Ascension and other mysteries from the first book. How will fill the void of power? What else will change with the Lord Ruler dead? And then Zane entered the story… He doesn’t make sense, and the notion that somebody can be this mentally ill but also NOT be mentally ill? Doesn’t work like that.

I’m starting to enjoy the book more. The scenes where they use allomancy are the most descriptive, but I still find it hard to follow what each metal can do. It would be helpful if the names of the metals gave a clue about their abilities. The army being destroyed was a twist I didn’t expect.

This whole Allomancy feels like a video game. Even terms like ‘burning’ or ‘flaring’ are common language to describe actions a player can make. But the whole Ironpulling and Steelpushing are still hard to understand. Maybe if I could visually see what these powers do, like, I don’t know, in a video game, it would be easier to comprehend.

It’s enjoyable, but very much like the Saxon stories. Thomas is much like Utred, there’s a priest giving him wisdom, a mentor in Will Skeat (Leofric in Saxon stories), Thomas falls in love with multiple women, just like Utred, Thomas is noble-born but has nothing (like Utred), and finds himself pulled between two worlds (French and English) just like Utred is both Christian and Viking.

Tolkien spends more time describing the dirt and the paths and trees than actual adventure. And they’re constantly stopping to eat and sleep. I was enjoying the book through Gandalf’s long story of Gollum, but now I’m bored and find myself skimming through much of it.

I guess they don't know that the earth is round? Daenerys doesn't want to travel east because she thinks it will take farther away from Westeros. And I think this red comet is still visible. I'm interested to know just what exactly do these characters know of the laws of physics. Then again, in a fictional world where magic is real, the laws of physics don't apply.

Martin wanted to make sure the reader knew which "side Renly played on"; by naming Renly's king's guard, the Rainbow Guard. Just in case anybody was questioning Renly's sexuality...he's gay. Nobody in the story will say it out loud, but the hints are so obvious it's kind of insulting that Martin expects the reader to believe that no character is gossiping about this.

Had to take a week long break from reading-my schedule wouldn't allow for it this week. I have to say, maybe it's the American in me, but I keep wondering, why does nobody care about the fate of the common people? I'm just waiting for the people to revolt against these wars being waged that are destroying their villages.I get it, you all want to be king, but what kind of king kills his own people?

It is taking forever for Arya to arrive in Winterfell. It didn't take this many chapters for any other character to travel the same distance; or even further. It's just long and drawn out. And I can reach the end of a chapter and say to myself, "What did I learn about the story? Nothing." This book is a much slower pace than Game of Thrones.

ZOMBIES! ICE ZOMBIES! I did not see that coming. It would seem the others are zombies who reanimate when it's cold enough. And they're not mindless zombies either, they have control of all their motor skills and are smart enough to know how/when to be stealthy. And they still retain control of severed body parts! WTF? I don't like zombies. This might be a deal breaker for me and this book series.

Best scene of the book so far! When Littlefinger betrayed Ned when Cersei put Joffrey on the throne. It was exciting, but not drawn out, and still suspenseful. I knew Littlefinger would betray Ned at some point but I didn't know when.

So was it Jorah or Ilyrio who Arya was eavesdropping on? And how the hell did he get to King's Landing and back so quickly? It had to be Ilyrio cause Jorah is hanging out with Daenerys. And the Eyrie? It's a little too isolated and too fantastic to believe. All of those steps and castles you have to climb past to reach a castle at the top of a mountain range? And Lysa is breastfeeding a six year old!?

Nine years of summer? What kind of rotational axis does this planet have? Apparently there's some kind of horror that lives behind The Wall that only emerges in the winter. And it's been summer so long that everyone has forgotten that winter always comes so they've neglected their only defense against the Others. A lot of story lines going on; I like it. I just hope my Mars series can hold its own against Westeros.

Still don't know what the wall is keeping out. Bran has come out of his coma, and the guy who tried to kill Bran used Tyrion's dagger; obviously the Lannister twins tried to have Bran assassinated and blame it on Tyrion. There's nothing the twins won't do; including sleeping together. And what's a grumpkin?
