Writing an update on progress because this is such a challenging and frustrating book. There's a good story in here somewhere but, it's buried by the continuous and IMHO superfluous digressions. I'm hoping that, at some point, it all comes together and I understand why I have had to read so many detailed explanations of whales and whaling to get this far in the plot.

Halfway through this extensive biography and I am really enjoying it. So much more to Paul than I'd read and seen before.

Listening to the audiobook. I’m a few chapters in.

Tarantino’s opinions on movies, some of which I too have seen many times and loved, veer from matching my own views to bring almost exact opposites.

I totally respect his opinions, and it has made me realise why my own opinions on Tarantino movies are hit & miss. I think that’s reflected in the tastes we have in common and the ones where we differ.

Branch Line by Paul Finch. Intriguing and atmospheric

A Hotel in Germany by Catriona Ward. Hauntingly sad

The Naughty Step by Stephen Volk. Absolutely heartbreaking

The Mirror House by Jonathan Robbins Leon. A little predictable but, some great passages of writing within it.

Alice’s Rebellion by John Langan. Trippy.

Murder Board by Grady Hendrix. Gripping with a great end line.

Bokeh by Thana Niveau unsettling fairy tale

The Importance of Oral Hygiene by Robert Sherman. Gruesomely good.

We all Come Home by Simon Bestwick. Would make a great Hammer House of Horrors episode.

Last Rites of the Fourth World by Rick Cross. Fun and inventive

Creeping Ivy by Laura Purcell. Atmospheric horror of guilt…and Ivy. V good.
