Writing an update on progress because this is such a challenging and frustrating book. There's a good story in here somewhere but, it's buried by the continuous and IMHO superfluous digressions. I'm hoping that, at some point, it all comes together and I understand why I have had to read so many detailed explanations of whales and whaling to get this far in the plot.
