I may be giving this book in the series only 2 stars. I don’t like books in which you don’t like the main character. She is transitioning from a smart, strong, brave, caring person to a stupid, violent person who doesn’t care how her actions would affect others she cares about. Yes, this is a challenging time but I do not recognize this character anymore. I prefer intelligent mysteries over thrillers.

I am impressed with how well written this book is. I usually read fiction but I am focusing on my health so I appreciate the information but didn’t expect to enjoy the language. I am grateful that the reader isn’t being talked down to. We may not all be doctors but that doesn’t mean we aren’t intelligent.

Keri is starting Christmas at the Island Hotel (Mure #4)
I am wondering why Jan is all the sudden named Pam. In the last book of the series I wondered how the couple who couldn’t adopt Joel because they had young children at the time all the sudden were childless. Otherwise I am enjoying reading this series.

Why is the name of a character in a previous book been changed? Is his personality modified? In a series part of the equation is characters that return from book to book. It makes no sense to change the name. Do I know this character or not? I am really appreciating this series but now I feel my trust has been betrayed. I liked this guy but now I do not know what to think. Is it a typo?

In chapter one, the sailing vessel is described as tacking with the wind behind presumably making its way up the Thames! It may sound like you know what you’re talking about to use sailing terminology but not when you use it incorrectly. It is jibing when the wind is behind a sailing vessel. The character making this statement would have known which term to use even if Ms. Perry does not.

Okay I’ve waited for this book to come out but after the last book I didn’t expect quite so much. I am not sure whether to say the author is back in her game or whether to say she’s upped it. I will enjoy reading about Armand and Reine-Marie regardless but this book is proving to be so much more than entertaining. All is of the caliber of her main characters which are hard to live up to.

Taking a hiatus. Upset with the use of language but after reading reviews realize the book was actually standing up against racial prejudices so I will finish it after some lighter material.

I posted a question on this book asking that if I wanted to read the trilogy but had already seen the movie, should I read this book the movie is based on. I got 2 opposing answers so I went with the one I wanted to hear assuming the other was probably right. The second answer was really right for me. I would never want to miss reading this book movie or no movie seen or unseen. Read the book. See the movie.
