Getting there...Part 2 is certainly more interesting. I highly recommend the unabridged audio book of the Edith Grossman translation, read by George Guidall. He is excellent at doing different voices.

Finished part 1. I had no idea that the format would be so much like The 1001 Nights, The Decameron, and Canterbury Tales: it's really an anthology of stories, also stories-within-stories, etc. Looking forward to part 2, which is apparently the greater of the two parts.

I absolutely adore this book! Among the highlights: blind women have lower rates of breast cancer while women who work night shifts have high rates; there is no correlation between street lights and crime (crime rates actually spike with greater "security" lighting); most of us who grew up in western culture will never experience total darkness. His explication of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is also excellent.
