I absolutely adore this book! Among the highlights: blind women have lower rates of breast cancer while women who work night shifts have high rates; there is no correlation between street lights and crime (crime rates actually spike with greater "security" lighting); most of us who grew up in western culture will never experience total darkness. His explication of Van Gogh's "Starry Night" is also excellent.
