Spoiler alert

I'm enjoying the idea of an 'outsider' feasting on the blood and sorrow of children. It reminds me of It, where It fed on kids as well. Also, the outsider is a shape-shifter, as was It, but It changed into what its victim was scared of, while the outsider changes into real people. What I'm not understanding so far is the outsider getting memories. Why would it only remember some details and not all?

Spoilers ahead.
When Terry was killed, everyone thought he did it, but then why didn't he say so in his dying breaths? It reminded me of And Then There Were None. Each time someone else died who they thought was the killer, they were forced to guess again. I'm interested to see who ended up killing the kid in the beginning of the book.

It, despite its reputation for being a horror story, isn't that scary. I know that it's been called terrifying, but rest assured it's not haunting me (so far). Still, I can't stop reading it. The details give me an image so clear I almost think it's real. The characters I find interesting, and I appreciate the way we get points of view from minor characters as well, like Eddie's mom and Beverly's friend Kay.

"He was the parent she could count on... It made him dispensable, because that's how kids think. Harkens way back to Romeo and Juliet. You want most what you can't have."
I really like this quote. You don't miss something until you can't have it. In this scenario, it talks about a dad who's always there for his daughter, whereas the mom isn't. Yet the kid still wants her mom, because she never gets to have her.

Hazel reminds me of Jude in The Cruel Prince, another book by Holly Black. Both are stubborn and sword-fighters. They're influenced by faeries, but Hazel's understanding is much different. Jude connects with them on a deeper level, because she lives there, but Hazel sees them as a slight threat. Faeries in both books seem similar, the same charms work against them and they do things they would do in The Cruel Prince.

This book is another great one. Lots of twist ensure that I will keep turning the pages until the end, when I don't want the end to come.
