My new co-worker and I were talking about books which then led to us discussing the trad wife-to-cult pipeline and this case popped up! I was so tickled lol She told me there was a documentary so I’ll be watching it too

Now that my commute to work is 30+ mins I need to get back into audiobooks and this one is perfect so far~

Still trying to piece together what is the whole deal with Sila’s dad or whatever. It has given us much to work with.

Still not sure where this is going plot-wise but something is cooking and I hope I am not disappointed

Very nice twist on concept of vampires somehow? At least from the little we know so far, but I really like.

Only now has it become clear to me this takes place in the 1890s… nothing about it gave that impression the first 150 pages or so. And now that it’s been explicitly mentioned, even the speech of the characters have changed. It feels as if the author made the decision suddenly with it revising the beginning.

“Oh, my dearest Alina…I want to do such terrible, sickening things to you. I hope you know that.”

Oh this book is actually quite hot… and none of that cringe-ness I see often from ‘darker’ romance.

“The only problem is that the snake could never anticipate that the mongoose has a resistance to her unforgiving bite, and has developed a taste for his rival’s flesh.”

I love there is a dual POV. Most of the time I do not enjoy them but this one is very entertaining

“My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath: a source of little visible delight, but necessary. Nelly, I am Heathcliff! He's always, always in my mind: not as a pleasure, any more than I am always a pleasure to myself, but as my own being.”

The othering of Heathcliff due to him not being white is so heavy in the book is shocks me adaptations ignore it so much?

I find it very telling how when Heathcliff is first brought into the Earnshaw family, the narrator refers to him as “it”

I had to restart this because as an audiobook it was not working for me. Reading it physically I am able to follow along much better.

Where is this even going atp? I’m so annoyed.

A child?!? Okay 😭 Also what is even Sasha’s motivation for her wanting a world that is perfect? I don’t understand it and therefore cannot get behind her.

Okay it has lost me. Now I’m simply confused but I wouldn’t mind if at least the story kept me engaged. It feels like it’s stuck now on the same thing for practically the whole time. I’m bored.

Hmm… this one is stumbling quite a bit with the story. It feels like we are back at square one and it’s not like anything that had been revealed is playing such a key role now. With almost 50% of the book I’m growing a bit tired ngl.

Once again we start with being super confused as to where the story is going yet it doesn’t fail to grasp your attention.

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around how 15 years passed in the town but her and her classmates are all the same. Like huh.

Oh damn… he has some unresolved family issues 😭 I am almost certain him feeling “the spare” will play a part in the plot, hopefully.

I wasn’t expecting that plot twist but I did have a feeling that character was going to play a vital role and they just seemed so suspicious always.

Something is going to happen during this wedding, especially with almost 25% left over in the book.

See I knew there was going to be something that would keep both of them alive lol These books are not high stakes at all.

This last trial is so unserious. Also there had to be some plot twist to help Pae come out of it.

This whole conflict thing with her so-called “best friend” is so forced to me. I gotta stop myself from rolling my eyes each time they bring it up.
