Ugh. It has revealed itself to be a spook book. Sigh. I’ll just have to push through I guess.

Excellent first chapter. It is a travelog and included history, amusing anecdotes, and current status of the area traversed.

Generally I like the plot, unfortunately I'm not particularly enjoying the execution. For me the writing style doesn't catch my attention.

Part three, on the most basic level, explains how part one and two are connected. This part is told by a third party observer, someone actively interacting with the protagonist. It also is different in that each section starts with the person in today and then spends the rest of the time in the 1930s.

I’ve finished part two, which is very speedy compared to part one. It’s written like a partially finished autobiography. Of someone never mentioned in part one, but living a very similar life, in the same area, doing similar things.

Finished part one. It was a fascinating portrait of two people during the heyday of the robber barons at the turn of the previous century. I both appreciate and despise the primary character. So that's some decent writing...

There are a lot of conversions happening. I'm curious as to the reason. In the book it simply says the standard religious trope of "they realized the truth" but it is rarely so simple. There has to be some other deciding factor.
Just a curious thought that has no answer.

Finished book one of two, which was an episode from earlier in the life of Aunt Vespasia…which is a character from the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt mysteries. And honestly, it was an episode. Things happened. People rose above. People fell below. And it all happened with Christmas approaching.

I'm skimming through this book. It's a super-Christian slogfest.
