I chose to skip the rape scene with my class, but the after effects are almost just as brutal. Having had a childhood friend who was raped when we were five and having lived through a rape trial and fear of men, it was too much for me to relive, even second hand. However, it did help my students understand just how serious, just how devastating, rape can be on an entire community.

This is a tough book to teach... I literally had to stop reading with the class and give them an assignment. Their assignment goes as such, "Find two pieces of evidence that support this statement: "Thomas Thistlewood was a demon."

This has to be one of the most lovely and enchanting travel memoirs I've read in a long, long time.

I've been reading this to my 8C students and they are completely enamored. Scary enough to keep students interested with a good dash of historical events thrown in, too.

Who is the true evil here? The "hungry" girl or the scientist? Man vs. Beast at its finest.

This has been taking me an exorbitant amount of time to read. I'm hoping to fall into some kind of rhythm in reading this book soon.

Well, this just broke all of my students' hearts. Yikes! But man, this has been the best book we've read all year, I'd argue.

Teaching it today was just MAGICAL.

Me: "What do you guys think, though? What really happened to Mollie?"
Various answers: "She was bribed back to the humans' side!" "She sold out!" "She ran away!" "She was killed!"
Me: *hearing the last answer, sly shrug and a "maybe" look*
7th grade boy: "What!? Are you serious? No!"
Me: "I'm just saying it's a possibility."
Him: "No! NO! Not Mollie!"

I read way too late. Got nothin' in my way. That's what people sayyy, mhm, that's what people say, mhm. I've got many books of late, but I won't give them away. That's what people say, mhm, that's what people say, mhm.

But I keep reeeeading, can't stop won't stop, thiiiiiinking, it's like I've got this quote in my head saying JUST READ ALL THE BOOKS.

Here's my take on The Guardian and Kathleen Hale. I'd appreciate it if you'd take the time to please read it.

The last few Ellen Hopkins books I've read didn't have the introspective feel of CRANK, which has been the only novel by her I've enjoyed. This one does so far, I'm happy to say!

My rat was put down this morning. He was almost three years old, so he lived a good, long life. I miss him and love him so much. He is in Rat Paradise with Bubba now.

GUYS. I got a job as a content writer! I am super excited!

This is really, shockingly, bad. I enjoyed Matched a lot, but this one makes me want to sleep.

There's nothing that stands out as particularly "bad" in this story, it's just so unbelievably not what I expected. I heard about how dark and creepy it is, but it's honestly the most boring dystopia I've read in a long while... and a lot of it is totally incorrect when it comes to human behavior.

I think what's preventing me from really loving this is that I don't find the government to be realistic and I think I probably just wasn't in the mood for a dystopian. I need a good fantasy.

If LOTR and World of Warcraft had a lovechild that turned out to be a Mary Sue, this would be it.
