The man was in real pain. That much is clear. Whatever was missing, he never found anything to replace it.

However, his particular brand of grandiosity and self-loathing gets pretty tiresome.

Was he forced to include the word "Friends" in the title, when he obviously wanted to call this book "Unaccompanied Minor"? It would have been a much better title.

Holly's business partner doesn't understand why she isn't more focused on the company. The only person who seems to understand the gravity of the situation is the private investigator she hired. I'm not sure what the point of hiring him was, since she constantly lies to him and gets angry when he tries to do his job.

Holly does care that her daughter is missing, but losing a valued employee seemed more upsetting.

In some circles, a missing child is considered a big deal, something that might eclipse everything else in a person's life. A missing child who has been comatose for ten years adds yet another layer of concern. Here, grandma wants to go off on an adventure and mom is joking and flirting with the private investigator. Unusual.

Even so, I love Peter Pan and I'm enjoying this book.

I love a good thriller, and I love Karin Slaughter's cartoonish male villains. But at this point, Emily is physically, verbally, and occasionally sexually assaulted by every man she encounters, whether she leaves the house or not. Doctors, teachers, friends, and her father. It might be a little much.

It's satirical, but so upsetting to watch the main character destroy his entire life I have to keep giving myself little breaks from it. Excellent so far, though.

Oh, sure. People talk about diversity, but they're only referring to meaningless things like race, culture, gender, etc....The hypocrisy is, they never think about real diversity, like giving a woman in a long dress and corset universal approval at all times.

Refused painkillers for her broken foot, complained of being kept waiting when she was in pain.

Not impressed, but I keep reading it for some reason. Currently, she is wishing corporal punishment on a bus driver who tore her petticoat, even though she got it caught in the door herself. She is fantasizing about the wrath that might have rained down on the driver 100% years ago for having "assaulted" a lady. Perplexing, since the driver is also a woman.

I'm glad she clarified, because what the hell, Victor was wearing a half shirt?

I like the way he's shedding light on his culture. Many of his explanations make sense, but his conclusions are al over the map. Like his grandmother before him, he contradicts himself constantly.

Huh. A couple who have seen 13 marriage counselors, and had at least one fire them off-season, can make you feel much better about your own life. The writer/narrator is quite amusing, but possibly in a charming sociopath kind of way.
