If he’s Sir Paulson Rollingbrooke, he’s a knight or a baronet so she’s not Mrs. Rollingbrooke. She’s Lady Rollingbrooke.

So much unnecessary exposition. So much repetitive dialogue. I’m 60 pages and we’ve looked in a safe and found nothing.

Queen Victoria calls Lord Montgomery “Duke” and said duke seems to be an overbearing jerk. Unless Annabelle is a fabulous and strong character, this is not going to go well.

What fresh hell is this alternating first person and third person narration??

Why do these two start to like each other? Why doesn’t Margaret demand to know why Gregory is there? Why doesn’t Gregory say he’d like to pursue Margaret rather than demand an engagement from her father? Why do her parents agree? How do we know this is set in 1812 because the language and manners don’t indicate that. Doesn’t anyone want to talk about what the deal with Wickham, I mean Northam is?

Overly used phrases I’ve found so far:

Whirling dervish (not a phrase in use during regency)

Every laugh is ‘chuffed’
Every lock, latch, and pistol trigger makes a ‘snitch’ sound
OMG please find an editor who will help you pick new words

Our MC is FLATTERED by this “compliment”. SHM. And she still hasn’t figured out that the man saying it is behind like 3 murders and is the one who set her up.

I know who the murderer is and I think I’ve guessed the motive. If I dislike the MC and I know who dunnit, is it worth it to keep reading?

Wow. Still describing non-white races with food-related descriptions. *sigh* This mystery better be clever with a likable detective to make up for the dark-roast coffee and latte characters.

Theodosia is described as “the apotheosis of what Lord Byron might have described as an English beauty in one of his novels”. That would have been a compliment if Byron wrote
novels. Too bad he was a poet.

So many punctuation mistakes! So many cliches! This is now a hate-read.

Chapter 3 and now she’s “Miss Carlisle”...

2 chapters in and our heroine, Evelyn Carlisle, apparently the daughter of Lord and Lady Carlisle, is being called Lady Carlisle. *sigh* The mystery better be amazing because there’s some ground to make up here.

ugh, so boring, no motivation to continue reading. At this point, if I don't care about Perry and Gail, I never will
