dropping this because it’s been a month & i just do not care anymore. this was probably building up to be a 5 star read (i fw the concept a lot & initially i could not put this down) but its been a while and the sentences still feel too stilted. also read the word “fooking” so just had to tap out. in another life maybe

reading the grand inquisitor for the THIRD time. first time around i was convinced i would a 100% get it (knowing that i have zero knowledge of christian lore). well, im a victim of intertextuality. second time was better but i was very foolishly reading “didst” as “didn’t” instead of “did”. obviously things did not make a lot of sense. im just dumb like that. but thankfully nodding along this time

reading this is fun because any mention of the names altan or chaghan is making me jump out of my skin. horrifically.

i love this part of the book esp because of how theo relates to the painting in this particular portion. its very much reminiscent of my feelings when i was first reading this book - i was so naive and cursory about it. but at the same time the book was a huge source of this warm underglow in my life? just like theo, unbeknown to me was this colossal, unnamed sense of attachment to the piece that i'd develop later.
