i love this part of the book esp because of how theo relates to the painting in this particular portion. its very much reminiscent of my feelings when i was first reading this book - i was so naive and cursory about it. but at the same time the book was a huge source of this warm underglow in my life? just like theo, unbeknown to me was this colossal, unnamed sense of attachment to the piece that i'd develop later.

also very very dear to me is hobie's kind presence. though the desolation is evident but his and the barbour's loveliness and compassion combined bakes up such an assuring environment for theo. i believe this is the only part of the book where theo feels a semblance of contentment and hope despite the fact that audrey's death was still somewhat new to him. and it aches my heart knowing how even he felt how impermanent it was.
