Algorithms to Live By: The Computer Science of Human Decisions

Hans is finished with A Mind for Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra)
Even though I consider myself a good learner, I found this book helpful in understanding why strategies in learning and test taking are effective. This book has a Coursera equivalent (Learning How to Learn), but the book is much more complete in the concepts the professor wants to talk about. Although the focus is on math and science students, the ideas work for anyone trying to be creative or to study.

An excerpt from this book was assigned reading. I've read so far the segment where she talks about her college application experience and controversy of affirmative action at the time. While I won't comment on that, I'll say that this author has much to say about this country--but even past that, her life is interesting. I'll be looking forward to reading the entire book in the future. (Summer?)

Hans
Hans is starting Matter & Interactions
This is the other "educational" physics textbook I'll try. So far, this book is WAY more a conceptual text than a mathematical text. Even just formulas is rarer, so I'll see where this book goes. (The article where I got this book had comments criticizing the lack of mathematics in this book as well.)

Hans is starting The Feynman Lectures on Physics
I've had a taste of several physics texts. Serway and Giancoli are pretty good, Halliday is all over the place, Knight my favorite. But I feel like I need someone as a mentor, and Feynman's lectures might be have the educational aspect that traditional textbooks don't emphasize.

Hans is on page 69 of 416 of Physics of the Future: How Science Will Shape Human Destiny and Our Daily Lives by the Year 2100
Finished with Future of Computing up until 2070ish. Lots of information. Goes really well with tech from Star Trek and Fringe.

C'mon, Almost Human! Your society is totally not 2048.
