Ok it definitely picks up...still has a few draggy places where city and military structure and protocols are described but I'm sure there are a lot of readers who like that type of thing. Anyway, I'm enjoying the book more than the last time I checked in 😁

Does this book get more interesting? I'm just 8% in and it's not doing much for me. Not saying it's bad ...just slow and not engaging me 😬

So far there's been some really interesting stories in this anthology. Stuck atm on one where a bunch of entitled white men are eating people in their monthly meetings. Yeah. . .might have to skip this one.

I have to keep reminding myself that this book was written in the 1940s when being racist, sexist, and ableist were accepted behaviors O.O The main character Ish is very hard for me to become invested in. He seems like someone who thinks more than does but gets angry when others don't think or do.

This book is depressing and terrifying. Not sure how one has hope after reading it.

Like so many of these smaller novels, this one could use a good editor. I am hanging in there, interested enough to see where the story goes.

Well. Never knew people would/could become so wildly violent during a heat wave but I researched a bit and it's true! Guess I am living in a bad place for that as the years heat up.

So far this is a pretty mysterious book. I think the author is doling out the plot as stingily as Earth is giving breezes in the apocalyptic setting she's described.

Hmm this was a free or very cheap book I picked up. It's a genre I usually enjoy but which, tbh, is a very easy genre to mess up: apocalyptic/post-apocalyptic. And I didn't read reviews (I rarely do) before getting the book. So far, the book is reflecting what many readers said: boring, slow, seemingly pointless. And I really wonder why the main character always has his windows open if he is also always cold...

I'm really looking forward to this book. What better way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month than with a romantic, coming out story by a queer, Tejane & Chicane author (pronouns they/them)?

Well, this book seems to be slower paced and more focused on internal emotions and external politics than the first. I am having a harder time staying interested, especially when what I really want to know more about are the aliens!

This book is very engrossing though the naming conventions take some getting used to. My only challenges are the overuse of italics and em dashes, especially the em dashes, because sometimes they make sentences really long and a bit convoluted for my liking. Sometimes I go back and read them without the content within the em dashes just to be sure I understood.

Struggling surprisingly considering it's 1) a young adult book and 2) got talking animals, which I've always liked. But it struck me today that it's actually a bit depressing to have a kids book be about war and killing and survival.

Somewhere, early on in this book, the story seems to have gone bananas. It's not just the time shifts, forward, backward, or time told from multiple perspectives forward and backward. It's even just the multiple perspectives and trying to remember as they come up and go who they are, what was happening to them last time we read about them etc. This was in the first book too, but this book has many more characters.

Hmm this book is being told through different viewpoints than the one we had in the first book (so far anyway) and it's a little slow. Hope it picks up soon.

The fact that the book's set in 2066 and homosexuality is still illegal anywhere makes me want to shelf this book as a dystopia except wait. . .is that just the future way too many people still seem to want?

I admit, that at first, the setting and culture of the book and characters seems confusing. One is rather tossed into it. But I'm slowly catching on. And Gideon is one of the most interesting characters I have read in a long time. I'm really enjoying this book so far.

Hmm. In my opinion, Ved acts too immature for someone his age and with so many responsibilities. He also comes across shallow with little character development. He hooks up, does drugs, gets drunk, pines for his lost love A LOT, ping pongs around about his weight & health, goes to the gym, works too much, indirectly and directly lies to nearly everyone in his life. Hope he improves!

I admit: the angsty, emo stuff in this book & other young adult books & shows gets on my nerves. I mean, I'm 60% in & the main characters are still going "its not a date but I want it to be a date but he might not want it to be a date so we're not on a date." Life is short, boys. Go on a date. Maybe it's because of how I was raised that this type of rising action just annoys me. Characters are cute but get on w/it!!!

This book is grating on my nerves. Too emo, too dramatic for my liking. So far the main character seems to be a fickle fellow, more traumatized by the death of his father 5 years earlier than seems believable. Additionally I dislike the way trans people are talked about & the main protagonist lets others do it, though he shouldn't. Also I'm already tired of the word "blue."
