Omfg. A book hasn't frustrated me this long in months. It's a good deal of drama, and selfishness on the main character's point but dhsjsjsjsjsjs. What in the actual fuck. The author has name dropped so many references to Jim Barrie's characters that I actually want to rage quit. It's one thing to write a sequel but it's another to pedantically name drop every valuable member of the original team...ugh.

First two stories have been depressing as hell, but I'm liking Gross Anatomy. Gabe's one of my favorite characters so far.

Thinking about it, I'd probably put this on a shelf next to Harry Crew's A Feast of Snakes. I'm definitely catching the same vibes.

This is one of those stories hovering between enough detail and describing torture for torture's sake/edging into the grotesque - just a fair warning that this isn't for the empathetic or easily disturbed. *spoilers* cannibalism, rape, psychological torture. Not sure I would have started this one had I known.

There's a few themes that really seem to permeate the post-apocalyptic genre. Lately, it feels like there's been a huge resurgence in literature in which the women die off, children stop being born etc. Off the top of my head, the Book of the Unamed Midwife by Meg Elison and The Wilds by Donna Augustine. Just an observation that the genre is shifting as the Netflix adaptation of a Handmaiden's tale is being released.

"Don't tell me you are jealous," she said. "Oh, no. To say I was jealous would be to suggest that you did not deserve all that you have. I know that you do. Fact of it is . . . well, I don't deserve to be near you. Were I not your guide through this, I would scarcely be tolerated among the other Masters. You are destined for far greater things than I.

Pretty much reading this just for Myn now. Totally insufferable.

Kinda surprised she's even survived this long...90% sure canned soup would have a better chance of reaching it's max shelf life than this girl would just walking through town.

Starting this book was like coming home. I didn't even realize how much i'd missed Sauce or Bad Tom until I started reading and it all starting clicking back into place. It might have been a couple of years since I finished the first book, but it feels like days now.

Oh, good, she lives in a tree like a Keebler elf and is afraid of magic. This is already off to a good start...
