There's a few themes that really seem to permeate the post-apocalyptic genre. Lately, it feels like there's been a huge resurgence in literature in which the women die off, children stop being born etc. Off the top of my head, the Book of the Unamed Midwife by Meg Elison and The Wilds by Donna Augustine. Just an observation that the genre is shifting as the Netflix adaptation of a Handmaiden's tale is being released.
