Hooked! Loving the tension and intrigue. Love the narration- it makes me believe I am in that time period. Love the headmaster and deputy head characters. Very stern. Actually got nervous like I was in trouble when I was reading lol

Oh I forgot to add… poor pooch! The author took a risk by harming a beloved husky, but I think it paid off! (Cos I’m a sick bitch and it appeals to my twisted personality 🤣)

Really enjoying it. The characters are fab and each one has a distinct personality. My favourite so far is Lockhart! Loving the fact that the MC’s girlfriend is both catholic and openly gay. It’s wonderful to see a religious belief shown through a character, without making that her only defining trait.

Liz is starting Holding Her (The Dawson Boys #1)
It’s really good so far, the only thing that is baffling me is why we’re the two main characters communicating via mail in the first place? When was it set? There is mention of mobile phones, email and social media. Even if she “lost” his number, your not telling me nobody else had it? Or an email? Or a name on social media? It’s a flimsy reason to lose touch.

Started well but struggling with certain things. Suspension of disbelief is extreme in places. Dialogue is ridiculous for time persons. Use of the word “washroom” is annoying since it’s set in 1600’s and “blueprints” weren’t invented until sometime in the 19th century so surely the correct term would be plans, or map, not blueprint!

The characters are so well portrayed and believable, I feel like I know them. I want to slap Cori, I want to shake James and tell him “too little too late, mate.” And I have a deep empathy for Trudy. I can 100% understand why she has made the choices she has made and what drove her to give into Matt’s advances. It’s a slow burn book, but it’s bloody fantastic.

I found this a slow start to begin with and I was worried that it wasn’t going to be for me, but I’m halfway through chapter 2 now and I’m so invested in Trudy’s character. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

I’m now 80% of the way through this book and I’m still not sure what the story is. It’s so meandering, and I was so invested in Peggy’s character, but I’ve just read a couple more chapters on her and it felt rushed and pointless. I don’t understand this book at all.

It’s difficult to pin down what exactly this story is about. It’s so meandering with extensive backstory thrown into every character but it’s done more like a huge info dump and is uninteresting to read. The first chapter had me hooked but it’s become a chore to read because it doesn’t seem to be going anywhere
