I found the book!! It fell behind my bed lol. I love how short and cozy all these stories are. Mothman writing to his buddy Slenderman about apartment-hunting in England? Adorable. A ghost slowly adopting the siblings who moved into his haunted house? Absolutely precious. Reading this feels like hugging a sasquatch.

I don't know where I put this down. :( I miss it.

Started reading this to Dad in the last week of his life - the perfect coziness to provide comfort. It's horribly overdue now but I need to finish it myself.

This book hurts my brain (in a good way) and I am not smart enough for it (also in a good way)

This protagonist is a wreck. She constantly, instantly flops between helpless terror and over-confident brashness. Which I kinda get, she's in a horrible situation, but also - jfc she is so inconsistent. "We have to work together" she says and literally seconds later she's trying to kill said person who is, in fact, trying to work with her. I'm still having fun but it's definitely despite her.

Alas, I cannot continue. I am too mad at the author's panicked avoidance of the obvious trio, and also the ridiculous shoehorning of one of them into a villain role. I cannot suspend this much disbelief.

Not really what I expected? It's very, very isolated - the text keeps mentioning incorporating the ideas into a regular D&D campaign but doesn't seem to have any clue how to begin doing that. The premise is GREAT, I love the concept, but the execution seems to be "do it this one really complicated way and that's it."

Skimming through - I really love the emphasis on motives in a fight, how intelligence affects strategy, and the like. Very much about keeping a situation dynamic, and not just "lock into 5' range and fight to the death."

Not SUPER helpful, but a nice starting point.

Not what I thought it was going to be. The vast majority of this guide is just "hey the Forgotten Realms world is slightly different in these specific ways." There's a teeny tiny bit of actual content - which is good content! - that is overshadowed by the minutiae of which race is allowed to do what in this specific setting that any DM is gonna tweak anyway.

Weird. I have got to stop reading anthologies by a single author, they are always SO WEIRD.
