At my core I'm an anti-medievalist who just happens to love medieval high fantasy, ironic. I know the Dark ages were the worst time to be alive. But that cosmic horror is part of what makes Medieval fantasy interesting.

I didn't get into Fantasy out of an abiding Hatred for Modernity. I got into it because sword and sorcery and magic are fun. I will say while I love modern conveniences it's true perhaps the post modernist are correct, modern life isn't all it could be. a Touch overrated, yes. we're not a utopia. not even close yet, but we've got it pretty good.

That same machinery that mass produced Bomber planes also mass produced alarm clocks, washer machines, microwaves, ovens, Driers, hair driers and a bunch of other devices that modern humans use to save themselves from labor. Tolkiens novel in the shire glosses over the actual work that would have to be put into things on a farm. it's barely shown.

Tolkien it appears can only imagine the machinery of the Industrial revolution being used to mass produce the machinery of murder and death. there's a great irony to things where because of labor saving machines in the modern era we have a lot more leisure time than we would "country living" on the farm. Modern life is much more idylic. Although some people work and work and work.

So I Think part of my Objection is Tolkien's Allegory. I am irritated by the moral lessons of his book. I thoroughly enjoy modern Conveniences. I'm the last person who would ever "Go amish."

I will have my reservation noted, in that the Industrial Revolution gave us bomber planes mass produced yes but it also gave us washer machines and driers.

While I will give Tolkien credit that the machinery of the Industrial Revolution can fuel Warfare and create the machinery of state sponsored murder and death I feel his experience in world war 1 clouded his perspective on things. He romanticizes Pastoral life but on a farm animals don't care if you get sick and crops don't if you're tired.

I also wanted to make a small note, Fantasy is my "Go to" genre which is why I despair the popularity of Tolkien so much. I Want to make a note of something, I like Fantasy but, I don't think I'm into it because I hate modernity and modern conveniences. I just think it's fun. I think this is part of my distaste for Tolkien. Isengard is a metaphor for the industrial revolution.

My life has taught me there's pretty much an inverse likelihood with respect to books in that the more popular a book is the less likely it is to be any good. I don't know what it is about people but I've certainly been lied to a lot. Tolkien was always a Hack. Dude was a academic linguist with not a shred of writing experience when he got published.

well they found the river so they're comparatively safer and plus the Gryphon should get plenty of food to heal quicker.
