and camp jupiter makes me Feel things like the fact that the demigods just live at camp :(( they grow up and they can stay there. percy feeling sad and not knowing why :( i love how jupiter differs from half blood, it's so interesting

this is what i missed in the king of scars duology, which was by and large a sprawling political intrigue. now THIS is about the CHARACTER. we are in the weeds with alex. this is what i loved about six of crows -- that moment we are in the funeral pyre with kaz, the shipwreck with matthias and nina. this is what compels me!

ok i've thought about it and what this book lacks is a sense of progression. it's aimless to the point of large swathes of it feeling meaningless. case in point, the appearance of moby dick does not feel like we've "culminated" to something, it just kind of happens.

ishmael is gay because he likes queequeg. ahab is gay because he hates women. they are not the same.

of course ahab has a wife that he would describe as a widow after sleeping in his house with her ONE time before returning to sea. of course. she might as well be a freaking widow
