In 1981, a group of such thinkers, including Maher Hathhout (d. 2015), Taha Jabir al-Alwani (d. 2016), Ismail Raja Faruqi (d. 1986), and Anwar Ibrahim (b. 1947) the current Prime Minister of Malaysia, formed the International Institute for Islamic Thought, or IIIT.
While they were not, of course, puritanical Salafis, the Enlightenment Salafism of Riḍā was clearly demonstrated in their thought.
