Very friggin excited that this is a long book

A book I’m always picking up and am referring too, not sure if it makes sense to put it in a “currently reading” folder because I have no intentions of reading it all the way through.

I sort of use this like do Lydia Davis’ collection of short stories: I skip around and read in no particular order and come back to the book whenever it comes to mind. Never read it with the intention to finish. Barthelme is quickly becoming my favorite short story writer (in commotion with Davis and George Saunders)

This is so fucking great

Not sure how much I like it yet. Having to run to the dictionary (open up a tab on my phone) too often to keep up. Obviously my own problem and no fault of the books, but as a result I’m having a difficult time sitting with some of the more deeply meditated passages.

Not loving it so far. Had to put it down and read something or as... intense? I get the hyper realistic nature of the book, and I get that the world is worth writing about and that Selby is writing about a world not usually (at the time) seen, but I don’t know that anything is being revealed or discovered, which makes the book just feel punishing.
