Volume 6 is completely heart-breaking.

Genuinely fantastic character design and Power is a very beautiful woman. One of my favourite "waifu" characters. Some stone-cold moments from Makima in the fourth volume.

In terms of theatre concerned with the acoustic qualities of language, this is much superior to Stein. I'll say that if the message of "Offending the Audience" is that symbolic interpretation from the audience is a form of indoctrination, that would be silly. Nonetheless, it is formally brilliant and beautifully written. It certainly makes the audience aware of themselves.

"springtime meal of the word-in-liberty" is fantastic and captures the erotic and intellectual beauty of the opening story. The idea of fostering new connections is noble in the aesthetic sense, certainly. a fair amount of the recounting of the banquets was a lot of self-puffery.

While to be expected for a fascist text, the overtly anti-intellectual elements are rather depressing especially for a "propagandist of pessimism" such as I. Also, kind of lays bare the open hypocrisy of nationalism - to condemn another country for advocating its interests and identity abroad but to do that very same thing yourself.

Opening story was beautiful. The anti-pasta diatribes are amusing but this is surprisingly prescient of discourses around automation and the body as a work of art. I suppose it all comes back to merging the right wing idea of preserving a national character with the often sensual and poetic nature of avant-gardism.
