Half way through and there are wrecks aplenty. But Rocky's son is the wreck which resonates. "What if this happened to me?" is the question I'm asking. But what if the Wreck isn't Jamie, what if it's Rocky's father, or her health, or Willa's anxiety, or what happened to Zach and his family. I'm just waiting for the rock that is Nick to founder...

Rocky is me but written down. I was at the dentist a couple of days ago, she was waiting for the phlebotomist. But the pastime was the same. As was the guy's opposite me. When I heard the celebratory music signalling he'd been successful in his number puzzle, I congratulated him...in person, with actual words rather than huffing at the intrusion into our silent waiting. A lovely conversation ensued. Life's good.

I'm already loving the Saturday night/Sunday morning opening chapters. Easy family time interspersed with cats and coffee and a car crash. Let's see how this pans out. It's looking promising.

Half way through and I'm disappointed in myself that I used to find reading this sort of writing so breathlessly exciting. I'd read one short chapter after another, unable to put the latest Michael Crichton down. Perhaps they were different 30 years ago, or perhaps I was. I'll finish this, but I won't be picking up another, I'm afraid.
