Great short story! Just what I needed to fill the evening. Gotta love a master of words who starts a book with: "The sky is the blue of a birthing blanket, the day newborn and filled with the light of innocence, when the air brakes of the bus whistle softly, waking him."

I'm a little nervous about this one. It's so highly rated and probably read by the highest number of my friends ever. But.... CLIFFHANGER. I have access to the whole series, but do I seriously want to commit to a 4 book series? Yikes! We'll see....

Their back and forth banter is just annoying. This isn't the book for me.

Ugh. Grace is pathetic. Yes, she's going through a tough separation, but have SOME backbone, please. It just goes on and on. Jackson is the "bad seed" of the town, and hes got the attitude to go with it. Neither characters are likeable at this point.

Reading this to get a better impression of narrator Joel Leslie, which everyone loves but me. Didn't realize this book was part of the Cocky rebellion (author tried to trademark the word Cocky and make other authors take down their work, so everyone named a book with the word Cocky).

Rec by group for flirty and funny like Just My Type by Tara Sivec.

This feels like a continuation of Sherlock Holmes stories, only with a young girl instead of John Watson. Nothing new and interesting so far, just new cases. Not impressed.

Finally found a way to get the Audiobook without paying more than I already do for book services. It wasn't available on Libby or Hoolu for me. Someone pointed out it was on KU (free to borrow) with Audiobook for 1.99. So I paid a couple bucks to borrow the Audiobook! Off to read...

This book is heavily contemplative. I thought it would be more about her observations, but the language is very lyrical and abstract.

A friend suggested I read this children's chapter book because of my love of nature. Finally found it in the library (sorry kids, but I'll read it fast!)

Going to reread one of my favorite snarky series and catch up on the books that weren't out when I originally read it in 2013.

Second, the main character is taking her "sisters" to the 1904 World's Fair. At the train station she apologizes to them saying she has only $70, which is not enough for all of their tickets. (Her mother even made a point to say she already put enough $ in her coin purse.) A quick Google will tell you the value of that today is just under $2,000!! Oooookaaaaaay... 🙄

Uhhhh... OK. I'm going to finish this story (unless it becomes intolerable) simply because it's so short. But I had to stop at Chapter 7 just to say a couple of things.

First, the story reads like a YA novel for a young teen girl. It us meant to be "family friendly" according to the intro, but nothing indicates the intended audience in the Audible summary.

This is rated high on Audible (4.6 stars by 5300 ppl) and I can't imagine why. I've been reading books in excess of 10 hrs lately, so I can invest the 6.5 hrs here to find out! And I'm still rather impatiently waiting on some library holds to come in soon!

Wait. They get called to the GM's office for being seen together off the field. Now he's suggesting he can stay at her parents home, and the only thing she thinks about is how her dad will go all fanboy? Even if nothing is happening, that's totally inappropriate, especially after they've already been questioned about it by their "boss." How about dropping him at a hotel? He can easily afford it. *sigh*

The ethnic slurs are really turning me off. It was funny at first, but the repeated use of "sauerkraut" et al is becoming offensive.

More than once I've questioned if these are pro athletes or high schoolers.

Anxiously waiting to connect with him, too. So far it's ALL about her view.

This book is not winning me over. :(

Its been a while since I've added comments along the way, but I'll try to remember to do it with this book.

At 9% so far I'm thinking 1) this is going to be really slow moving, and 2) I'm SO not a sports person and would never have picked this book on my own. Lol

Tracey HIGHLY recommended this author, so I'm reading it bc we have so much book taste in common. Now I see that several of my friends have read it, and all have given it 5 stars, so that's promising!

Jenessa is one of those people that asks you for favors (plural) that put you in an awkward position. First, the detective. Then, her boss's cousin at the crime lab. And next, her high school friend on the police force. But asking is only half. They all seem to do it with barely a 2nd thought. Major leaks too. I dont know about the believability here...

Just finished Getting Wilde by Jenn Stark. I LOVED the first half. Her author's voice was great! The second half kinda lost me, and my interest level waned quickly. 3 stars.
