There's a common theme of a lazy or stupid person coming across a magic animal or item that does anything they want (chopping trees, gathering water, building a marble castle in one night) that reminds me of Office Space. Stop trying so hard and magically it'll all work out! I kind of love it.

Marriage is a life commitment... the prime concern of your life. If marriage is not the prime concern, you're not married.

I'm not certain I like this...phrasing, at least. Concern does not give a positive connotation of the marriage. I hardly think about my marriage, it's not a concern at all, does that mean I'm not married? I wonder if Campbell's personal views got in the way here of saying what he really meant

Why 'used to be' the winter solstice?

He mentions the idea of thanking the animal you eat for giving its life to you, and plants are the same idea they are a life taking of sorts, but what would he think about hot cheetos? He would be appalled. He probably didn't let his grandkids eat sugary cereals.

"Fairy tale is the child's myth" I wonder if that's insulting to some adults who love fairy tales, or do they recognize the youthfulness of fairy tales as part of the joy? Did he mean to be insulting? Is he right?

They've repeated now that we don't have these rituals anymore than make boys into men, leading to them finding their own rituals in gangs or of movies serving as myth. Gangs are a clear choice as they have literal initiations, but there are so many values that people mythologize these days: sports, arts, academics like the authors. People choose their own myths and join its ritual structure... to some extent

Movers would be fast friends with the guys in Alt-J. They'd be like two points of a triangle (oof).

The characters keep warping their feelings from one scene to the next. Last chapter ended with Madea being a hermit and going mad due to Jason being away during the day. Start of the next chapter she is dismayed at the thought of leaving the town for another. It just doesn't make sense.

"In the heart of the space was an outdoor courtyard, complete with a fountain fed by one of Korinth's many natural springs and carefully kept herbs."

The fountain is fed by herbs? The grammar is getting worse.

"...the elegant lines of her profile ensnared me immediately". Odd way to describe your newborn baby

Another word repeated twice in a sentence. 'Simply'

I doubt his throat would have enough for a "shower of blood" after being cut 9 times already.

There's no mention of cleaning out her experiments from her labor anything... won't they be discovered? Then her father will know what she did?

"I recruited Herakles... along with his boy lover, Halas. Orpheus too offered to join..."

Excuse me? I'm all for Hercules being bisexuality, but the mention here feels out of place.

On last note- the author should have used a narrator instead of first person. Medea can't be that all knowing. This adds to the lack of verisimilitude of her character along with her proper and restrained speech and lack of speaking v thinking tones.

So her mind is "foggy and uncouth" and she can't remember why she's there, but her facilities are sharp enough to notice a mournful glint in the goddesses eyes.

Well, suddenly Medea is 20 and has a backbone. I guess we didn't get to see all that character development but are meant to believe that she has grown over the years

"... she placed Phaethon down carefully, before wrapping her arms carefully around her middle."

Sloppy writing. Basi show don't tell; the author is telling and repeating the same tell twice in a sentence.

Not a fan of the writing. It's very dry, as if trying to replicate Greek writing (I guess, idk what Greek writing is like really).

"Sometimes I think people only pretend to like each other." Wow. Yeah. Soulmate right here.

Great character building, but not much as far as plot. I can already predict what will happen and the narrator keeps giving hints which is annoying ("she never would like that..." etc). I really hope there's a big plot twist soon
