Pretty gruesome, but it’s a good story so far.

Both Essie and Shanice are annoyingly naive. Also so much book and so little has happened.

Not liking the husband or the mother-in-law.

Finally able to focus on an audiobook, while doing other tasks, without getting distracted. I feel like I’ve graduated to another level of book lover.

Not the biggest fan of Keaton or her narration. Would love a bookstore/soul food cafe!

I love when books give you information about places and things you wouldn’t otherwise know about. However, this one has so much that you almost forget a murder happened. Maybe I can come back to it, but right now I’m just not feeling it.

The story is going well enough, yet the author’s need to not so subtly foreshadow events is irritating. It’s supposed to be a mystery.

“It was a pleasure for you to speak with us. We cannot say the same.”

This is pretty well written, in my opinion. However, I was expecting more historical mystery. This far in and it’s reading more like a historical fiction. Maybe I got it wrong, but it’s just not what I’m in the mood for right now. Putting on pause, (Aug. 5).

I can’t be mad since I checked this out on my own, without a recommendation. However, this has got to be the slowest mystery I’ve read in awhile. 171 pages in and only 1 person is dead, no clear suspects and the only danger is 2 anonymous notes, that aren’t even threatening. The only reason I’m still reading is because I’m not sure what I want to read next.

Paused mid-chapter, off to a lackluster start. Really hoping it picks up.

So apparently I’m reading this for the third time. Honestly only thought I’d read it once before. The goal is to actually finish the series this time around.

I love Tara Johnson’s writing, however, Gabe is making my teeth itch.

This is so good, however I’ve only been able to handle about two chapters at a time, before I need a break.
