This is so irritating. Your self loathing is manifesting as narcissism when really your concern should be about the country that is jeopardized by your self loathing! Amateurs

The eugenics aspect here is getting worse

At this point the characters are doing the world building for each other, they don’t seem to understand the rules of their own government

I don’t really like this but I’m going to power through however I would be remiss not to mention that the basic foundation for the plot basically hinges on ethnocentric nationalism so you know whatever

Genuinely disgusted to learn this was supposed to have been set in 2016

So much of this book is just what are you on about

Oh my god

Until I read the last few pages I was ready to give a sort of negative read on the structure of the book so far but now I’m actually more sympathetic to the unique challenge of writing this work. I will still say, the chronological organization works against the book. You’re the one writing it, you decide how to sort out your points. Abandoning the not so useful timeline would help the work not be so lopsided

By far the most compelling section of the book

He continues to hammer home this idea that people were adversarial to them because they were so antagonistic to the cultures of daily life, which he has also failed to demonstrate or refute

He seems almost uniquely uninterested in interrogating the reasons behind these declines and the dramatic fluctuations in success. Obviously there’s a host of issues, but the most obvious to me is left almost entirely unaddressed: the forefronting of women and equality. The comparison to the Mormons is apt, I would argue the Shakers have a less outrageous mythology, and yet the Mormons persist much farther

Oh? What’s that you say? The people whose core belief was refraining from sex had a pattern of unusually strong homosexual relationships? Well I’m sure there’s nothing to be gleaned from that. It’s nice to have good friends. Anywho,
