Not Goodreads nominating an out and proud terf in the audiobook category like...😭

I’m not a prude but the constant profanity in this book feels excessive

I'm choosing to believe that there'll be a good, logical reason why this woman has hatched the most ridiculous and convoluted plan known to man but based on the average rating I'm fairly certain that won't be the case... 🫠

Sad to say I've kinda lost interest in this by now, I just feel like events are just happening one after another with no through line. The characters keep telling us that this happened and that happened and this much time has passed and I'm just left feeling very distanced from any sort of emotion.

I'm very pleasantly surprised by how easy to read this is :)

I seem to be in a ‘finishing books’ slump, I’m picking up books, reading the first 100 pages, enjoying it, then putting them down and never returning to them. I don’t know what to do 😭🫠

I am currently in a world of shit right now. My grades were so poor that my college has to contact my parents.... Just the thought of them picking up the phone and hearing the news makes me want to curl up in a corner and cry 💔🤧

“The Nine Curves River” by R. F. Kuang - 3.5/5

This was pretty well written but the one thing that held it back was that the characters felt a little depthless and more just archetypes. Like, wow older woman who’s jealous of the younger girl who’s extremely beautiful? Hmm, now where have I heard that before…

“Pox” by Ellen Klages - 2/5

I’m sorry but what the fuck was the point of this story? It really did not feel fantastical or magical at all! Just a contemporary story with like 0.001% of a hint of magic thrown in. I think it was trying to be fairy tale esque but I was just completely uninterested. And as a vegetarian, the constant descriptions of meat didn’t help, just made the story more annoying to read imo.

I totally did not forget that I was reading this 😅

The lack of quotation marks and constant time jumps made it really confusing for me to understand what was going on and when. I wasn't enjoying what I was reading so I decided to just cut my losses and move on.

Where the River Turns to Concrete by Brooke Bolander - 3/5

I can acknowledge that this story is decently crafted but the main character was too passive for me. And while I can see how other people could fall in love with the romance/relationship, for me personally it didn't do a whole lot. Still, I'd be interested in picking up more by this author for sure 👍

A Whisper of Blue by Ken Liu - 4/5

This was WONDERFUL! It felt so whimsical despite being set in modern day. I loved all of the alternate history bits and the narrative voice of the story being a documentary felt really inspired. This was just really well done.
