I'm fascinated by how the context completely changes my experiences of this reread and I'm curious to see how that progresses

I'm excited for these birthday rereads!!! I haven't read this edition in 18 years, and that's a bit wild to sit with.

Trying again. Perhaps reading the text rather than listening to the audiobook will provide enough emotional distance for me to tolerate exposure to such intense trauma on top of my own ✌🏼

1) the pauses between chapters are jarring for me 2) I’m unsure how I’m liking this as the repetitious style and slow pacing bores me more than I anticipated. I wonder how much seeing the film a decade ago has also impacted my reception. I think it takes the tension out for me?
