god this is so beautifully 2006. wdym axel f by crazy frog has already been namedropped

is no one willing to take up the mantle and write a really great zombie novel. does anyone even care about zombies anymore or is it just me out here alone in this world

a little slow but enjoyable. excited for the creep factor to increase. good for october

i don't want this to end yet. i'm hurtling through it and i know that's a mark of a truly great and affecting novel but i really don't want it to be over quite yet. i want to stay here with kai and juniper just a little longer :(

"'i was never an actor,' she tells me, 'but there's something akin to that in writing. the feeling of losing oneself, that it isn't even you writing the words but that you are instead a kind of aqueduct through which the words flow.'"

no one asked but this is mostly for my planning:
rounding off october with ninth house probably. nov-jan always puts me in a fog of nostalgia so i likely won't be able to help myself from indulging in a LOT of rereads. hoping for twilight in nov, probably will try six of crows then as well. dec is eternally for the bell jar, and i'll do aftg then too <3 returning to terra ignota next month and very excited

will stop with the updates for a bit after this one. it is dreadful in a good way, this feeling of knowing you will be cracked open by something despite not knowing yet how exactly it will do so. it is equally invigorating to be in it. the novel is tugging Hard at a good handful of deeply personal threads. i missed this desperately from one of my favorite living authors. feeling very grateful. i'll steep in it.

oh john, please not this. queuing up the anthropocene audio as a salve for whatever the rest of this book will do to me.

(quietly)
"i'd lost the certainty that mothers are good, that love is simple . . . grief is a strange bedfellow."

i can actually hear his voice narrating it in my head and im trying not to cry i missed green's fiction so badly and for it to be an adult novel now...oh how we've grown. i'm normal.

i'm so normal expect only normal thoughts and reactions from this long-time john green fan engaging in his debut adult fiction novel i feel so normal about finally having this

north ga appalachians?? narrator with a disturbingly faulty memory?? vampires???? me saying i'm excited like yeah u don't say

i'm desperate pls if u have been well and truly spooked by a horror novel pls let me know...i yearn for a truly terrifying novel i want to be really scared. drop recs in the comments PLEASE

i too would go and get snake-bit just to shuck my duty, robert, it's okay

"tread wary foot amongst these sacred stones, for here, on october 5th, 1666. . ."

how serendipitous to have begun this on oct 5!!! by complete coincidence!!! awesome :]

i know this will be my third note from this same segment of the book but it's so powerful like. how does it feel to be living my dream im so .so serious

so grateful we're finally getting into the intimacy inherent in surgery. of course it's starling taking up this mantle <3

life keeps doing shit to me so expect a well-adjusted reread of cruel prince soon i need a breather

oughghhghh if this is going the direction i hope it is oh boy i am about to have Just So Much Fun >:]

LOL backrooms mention

oh i missed starling's writing so desperately. unsure as of yet if this will usurp my practically perfect dear starving saints but. mwahaha i just adore this style

there is a line in here that actually seized my chest with dread like there is a physical sensation of pain that unfortunately i could not rationally explain to you if i tried

i...no longer know about this

i'm just gonna need people to stop writing books called trad wife. i think we have enough thanks. even one was more than enough thanks.

every time i read one of these (it has only happened a handful of times) i find myself Forced To Reckon with very uncomfortable truths about myself...that is how i know this is very, very good. among other things. but mostly that.

i don't mean to keep updating every 10% but that's how it's unfolding thus far. there is so so much i want to say and can't. this thing is so goddamn good

i hesitate in making this claim too early into it but there is a very real feeling i get from this that is pulling me back toward my annual secret history reread and . i have missed the previous 2 years...hm. something to consider

a chapter's opening is something that can be so personal...anyway this one's taking it

oh alright, everyone at least pretend to be surprised this is already very, very much up my alley

oh okay so i'll start crying actually right now don't test me josh
