I forgot how much more technical his writing is. Which is interesting in a book on shame

It's truly amazing what some time away from seminary coursework did for my appreciation for this series

"...Love Himself has made it safe to struggle in the light. I cannot claim to have hope but not share how it has been there in the darkest moments for me...I cannot write about the love of God and leave out the moment I pushed myself the furthest away from I could ever be. And how, even then, His love showed up."

Come on somebody. Real, raw, beautiful.

This book is already making me ✨feel things✨ I see why the former director of our department liked it so much

Who'd of thought that a chapter about needs being met/unmet in childhood would cause that for me?????????????????????????????????????????????????

Thoughts I've had reading this book:

"The portions with the bigger group are so interesting, the parts with Sam and Frodo are just 🚶‍♂️🚶‍♂️"

"I should like the Sam/Frodo portions more because, you know, friendship...I just don't. Sorry Mr Tolkien."

"Dang it Gollum is a very compelling character. As much as I don't like him."

After a 2 year hiatus, I have picked it back up. Will I finish it? Maybe. Will I still be mostly bored with it? Probably. Will those jokers still be walkin'? Most definitely.

A few weeks ago I saw a job posting for a Clinical Ethicist. I'm realizing why that job listed such a high salary. I also think this kind of stuff is fascinating. Maybe I could do something in this field years from now??

Its possible I should have not read this book. It's a lot. It's helpful to see another sufferer's perspective, but at what cost? Chapter 17 especially scared me as to the possibilities of what can happen as one's mental health plummets. Granted she was off her meds for a long time...still.

Reading for work. This work and this book show me continually how little in life is black and white. Both as a recovering black-and-white thinker and someone who works in a hospital, this book is very helpful

Refreshing. Sometimes cringey, but I prefer that over the sometimes intense frustration I've been feeling with some of the other books I've been reading from the more Reformed crowd. As one of my mentors asked me, "Why do you keep reading things you know you're going to disagree with?" I also feel a little nostalgia because writing similar to this was helpful for me when I got serious about my faith while in college.

It's...okay. I feel like towards the end he's just saying you need to remove anger from your life...which is misleading given the title of the book. He is a biblical counselor though, so I can't say I'm that surprised. Curious about these last two chapters though

Heartbreaking and sad story for the Lacks family. Really goes to show how the love of money and progress in the scientific field can lead to people doing deplorable things
