This book is absolutely delightful… each page feels like an indulgence, like I can pull out every image, scent, taste, and sensation and absorb all of it. I feel like I AM Viola, like I’m really experiencing this world through her eyes. I now understand why Alex switched the entirety of this book from 3rd person to 1st person, it works so incredibly well!

Only a handful of pages in but I can already tell this is one is going to be a step up from Bracken’s previous (and already exceptional) works. Which makes sense, as it’s her adult debut, but I already had to look up 2 words in the dictionary in just the first five pages😅. The language is very sophisticated and perfectly reflects the time period this world is based on.
