i am enjoying this quite a lot! it was a bit confusing to get into the swing of things, but the two plots work quite well together despite seeming so disparate, and i really like the separation of styles - diary entries, dialogue-only, narration - for different plotlines. also intrigued by the political discussions, which are leading me to realize i truly have no idea what peronism is

i feel SICK

kind of like a precursor to selva almada in a way. this rural dry heat and the directness of language. the landscape pressing in. i am into it!!

okay wow usually i am not the biggest fan of short story collections but this is really really fantastic so far

absolutely nothing in the world like almada’s use of language, specific and pointed and evocative of this dry harsh rural landscape. this maybe wrapped up too quickly but i really quite liked it overall

i appreciate that neus thinks i can read this book but there’s a distinct possibility her confidence is misplaced. oh well. 2 viatges in and i already have had to look up at least 10 nature words i didn’t know. yayyyy!

castellanos moya has the same narration style always and i really dislike it and i find the way he writes women quite uncomfortable

the juan mayorga mini play at the end of this volume is SO like barbados, etcetera it's not even funny. corroborating my theory that barbados is at least partly about translation anyway

i need to eat this narration

we only have to read the first third or so of this for class but i am SO enthralled that i am hopefully going to try to finish it on my own... also when else am i going to read it... i may as well seize the opportunity. literally my mouth hanging open at the grotesque visions and the vultures circling overhead and !!!! i was afraid this would just be too dense for me but it's so good.

i read 2 chapters of this for my translation course in the fall of 2024 and i still frequently think about it so i think it’s time to return and hopefully read the whole thing this time

i liked this a lot… was sometimes kind of put off by moments in the narration but the style really was captivating
