i read 2 chapters of this for my translation course in the fall of 2024 and i still frequently think about it so i think it’s time to return and hopefully read the whole thing this time

i liked this a lot… was sometimes kind of put off by moments in the narration but the style really was captivating

cobra was a corpse for a chapter and then suddenly wasn't dead anymore. this book is a lesson in learning to go with the flow for sure

found this book in a secondhand bookstore in los angeles in 2023. it's undated, signed by the man who wrote the introduction, has printing errors, and also the author seems to be the most obscure poet ever. but it's time for my twice-yearly Book In Italian read and this was the only one i owned besides another alessandro baricco book and it's too soon for me to read another of his... so here we are!

i’m sorry i know it’s fiction but this reveal is so unbelievable that i’m having trouble taking it seriously

i have no clue what is going on in this second half but man if this isn't an exercise in writing beautiful language. a crazy density of images going on here - there's a lot i can't catch or simply don't have the wherewithal to unpack but i keep reading it because the number of absolutely beautiful sentences is so high. oh wow oh huh

pissing me off a little that moroni keeps complaining abt there not being one unifying coherent definition of theatre translation. i guess this is why i am a translator & he studies the theory of translation. but rly. you think it's possible to capture and define translation? one of the slipperiest enterprises? one that changes with every person who undertakes it? literally: baina honela, ez zen gehiago txoria izango

to absolutely nobody’s surprise given the kind of modern theatre i tend to like (staring barbados etcetera dead in the eyes) i loved this 👍 yayyy

i’m predisposed to be cranky about this book because i don’t understand WHY i am having to read it for my complit thesis seminar but it’s fine. i’m totally chill and not stressed

and if i say that this might be changing my life the way reading lorca for the first time did in high school

i am always speed-rereading this book for academic purposes it seems... not that i'm skimming, even, just that i'm shoving hours and hours of reading it into 2 days
