I certainly hope something of consequence happens in the last act of this book, because beyond the brilliant prose, I feel like with a brief introduction to the characters, I could start at this point of the book and not have missed anything important beyond world building.

Zombie apocalypse written with literary flair and vocab so big that I frequently don’t know what words mean.
Slow slog of a tale though…

“Everything alive is either coming or going, growing or dying. Nothing ever stays the same. Every change is a change forever. Ah, but nothing is forever changed that will not change again.”

“In Jesu’s holy sight, King of Sun and all that shines,
I stretch my hand in high and let it fall,
Swiftly, swiftly, let it fall to strike,
And strike again the kindling spark,
Thou Spirit of Love, hearth’s true warmth,
Breath of Life, Lord of Light and all things bright,
Illumine now our passage through this dark night.
Illumine now our passage through the dark night.”

Loving this return to Lawhead’s Pendragon Cycle.
This is his best book in years. Well told tale in a world that few have explored better than Stephen Lawhead.
