لم يتصور (هاري) أنه سيقابل في يوم من الأيام شخصًا يكرهه أكثر من كراهيته لابن خالته (ددلي).. حتى قابل (دراكو مالفوي)..

كان (هاري) قد شعر خلال مأدبة بداية العام الدراسي بأن الأستاذ (سنايب) لا يحبه، ولكنه مع نهاية أول حصة من حصص مادة الوصفات عرف أنه كان مخطئًا.. وأن (سنايب) ليس فقط لا يحبه.. بل إنه يكرهه تمامًا!

ووضع الخال (فيرنون) صندوق (هاري) على إحدى عربات الحقائب، ودفعها إلى داخل المحطة وهو تصرُّف لطيف أثار استغراب (هاري) حتى توقف الخال (فيرنون) عند الأرصفة وابتسم ابتسامة خبيثة. وقال: «ها هو ذا الرصيف رقم تسعة والثاني هو الرصيف رقم عشرة لا شيء بينهما، يبدو أنهم لم يقيموا رصيفك بعد.. أتمنى لك دراسة سعيدة».. ومضى وهو يبتسم ابتسامة أكثر خبثًا. نظر إليه (هاري) مذهولًا حتى استقل السيارة ومضى، وكان الثلاثة يضحكون ساخرين منه.

«ادخل أيها الغريب لكن احترس..
من نتيجة خطيئة الجشع!
لأن هؤلاء الذين يأخذون ما لا يستحقون..
سيعاقبون بأكثر مما يتصورون..
فإذا كنت تبحث عن كنز تحت أرضنا..
كنز ليس لك الحق فيه
نحذرك أيها اللص..
كن مستعدًّا.
فقد تجد ما هو أكثر بكثير من الكنز هناك!».

أما الثالث فكان لـ(هاري)! التقطه (هاري) وحدق به وتسارعت دقات قلبه.. لم يرسل له أحد قطُّ خطابًا من قبل.. من الذي يرسل له خطابًا على أية حال؟ فليس له أقارب على الإطلاق.. ولا أصدقاء.. ولم يشترك في المكتبة حتى يتلقى رسالة تطالبه بإعادة الكتب المستعارة، لكن الخطاب له.. له فعلًا دون أي شك!

رد (دمبلدور) بجدية وهو ينظر من فوق نظارته الهلالية: «تمامًا.. طفل مشهور ومعروف قبل أن يمشي أو يتكلم.. مشهور لسبب لا يتذكره.. إن هذا كفيل بأن يدير رأس أي طفل.. ألا ترين أن من مصلحته أن يترعرع بعيدًا عن كل ذلك حتى يصبح قادرًا على تحمله؟!».

Even if I’d wanted to skip the event, I really did love getting dressed up and putting on a tiara. It felt magical every single time.

But no matter how much I told myself not to, I kept thinking about him.

He hung on my every word, seeming fascinated.
It made me feel seen in a way that I hadn’t in a long time.

He was so friendly and charming . . . and that smile of his? It made the whole world seem brighter.

It was weird to say, but I felt like I might think about her for the rest of my life. Like she would be my one “What If.”
I guess in the grand scheme of things, a single “What If” isn’t too bad.
But still.

I was going to make Grandma proud. I probably wouldn’t kill a guy, but I would definitely never accept anything less than what I deserved, ever again.

she whispered. “I’d shove a dead guy into a river for you. I’d shove a live one in there too.”
“So would I.” I looked at her.

I hadn’t unpacked, I hadn’t made it my own. It was as foreign to me as the rest of my life at the moment somewhat familiar but alien too.

He smiled at me, and my face softened the tiniest bit.

The right guy at the wrong time.
No time was ever going to be the right time until all this was over.

“Why’d you have to come for me like that?”
“Because I love you. I want to see you happy.

I think the reason I pushed myself today the way I did was because I hated the way Charlotte’s world had been shrunk. If she was going to live in a cage, I wanted to help her make the most of it. Soften it any way I could.

I knew it was really early on, and we didn’t know each other very well, but I was protective of her. Whether she knew it or not, I was in. And once I was in, that was it. I’d do anything for the people I cared about and I cared about her. Probably more than I should.

She didn’t know who I was or who he was. But she still knew what love was.

“Life is so hard,” I said quietly.
“I don’t even remember a time when it wasn’t,” Jeneva said.

Missing Xavier, grieving Grandma, and taking care of Mom. That was my life.
There was no color in my world. Only the promise of color for visits with Xavier that never seemed to materialize.
I was living now in nothing but gray.

I had no choice but to go home.
Correction. To go to Minnesota.
Because home was where she was. Minnesota was just where I worked now.

And she was right. I did want to collect our memories. Everything I got to do with her was precious to me. I’d never been much for mementos or keepsakes but now all I wanted was to look around me and see evidence of her. I wanted to breathe in and smell her, reach out and touch her, open my eyes and see her. Short of living with her nothing would be enough, but the frame was a start.

You think that it’s the big memories you should be chasing and it is in a way. Birthdays and vacations and special occasions. But the small memories are the fabric of your life, the ones so inconsequential that you don’t even remember them. You just remember how you felt when you were making them.

“Because if you were my wife you would be my world. Everything starts with you and ends with you. Anything else is just the stuff that happens in the middle.”

“I missed you so much,” he whispered.
“I missed you too. My boyfriend.” I smiled.
His face lit up at the word. I had wondered if it had the same kind of magic that girlfriend had for me. I guess it did.

My heart swelled just looking at him.
All worry and doubt I had fell away.
And then I realized. None of the fear and worry I had was because I didn’t think it would work. The fear and worry was because I knew it would.
I was going to fall in love with this man. I was already halfway there.

“I thought about you every minute,” I said. “Even when I wasn’t thinking about you, I was.”

This had to be its own type of hell for him. She was here but she wasn’t. She hadn’t died so he couldn’t stop grieving her or move on. He just had to watch her forget their entire life together. Forget him and forget herself too. The snowball melting at the bottom of the hill.
